"I moved to Virginia Beach towards the tail end of 2016. One of the first memories that I have from my early days in this city is when someone drove me down as close to the oceanfront area as possible during the Shamrock weekend to show me all the crazy people dressed up in festive green who were participating in the historic weekend. I’ll never forget being so inspired by all those crazy people who looked so happy to be there running. Growing up I hated running and never would’ve imagined that one day I would be one of those crazy people to find joy in it. During COVID I needed to do something, I needed to start moving and get outside. So I started to run and just fell in love.Flash forward to November 2024 and being in the second trimester of my pregnancy telling my boyfriend while we were out to eat for breakfast, “Hey, I think I really want to run the Shamrock half marathon in March.” He responded, “Babe, you might be too big by then to keep running especially at that distance!”It was a goal though that I had secretly set at the beginning of my pregnancy to keep up with running so that I could participate in this event because the energy and inspiration Shamrock has to offer is unreal. During the race I lost count of the number of people who gave me fist bumps or who cheered me on with “You go mama!” which carried me to the finish line.I’m so happy I stayed consistent with running throughout my pregnancy because participating in Shamrock 2025 weekend at almost 35 weeks pregnant was hands down one of the most empowering things I’ve done in my life and I can’t wait to share it with my daughter one day just how bad ass her mommy was while carrying her."

Melissa from New Jersey turned heads and took names last year—decked out in a tutu, flying through the miles, and finishing as the first overall female in the Whale Challenge, with a shiny new BQ to match 💚"After achieving my goal of being the first overall female for the Dolphin Challenge in 2024, I thought how cool would it be to try to win the Whale Challenge in 2025? So I decided not to run the Boston Marathon this year to tackle the Whale. When Boston dropped the qualifying times another five minutes, I was second guessing my decision. Then I saw the wind forecasted for race day, and I was REALLY second guessing my goals. I decided I was going to do what Shamrock was made for, and I was going to go have a blast out there. I have never ran in a tutu, but I started thinking… “BQ in a tutu” would make a great hashtag! It became my mantra through the race, and I have to say if you have never ran in a tutu you should try it, because EVERYONE cheers for you! I had the time of my life chipping away at the miles and got my #bqinatutu AND secured the first overall female for the Whale Challenge! I’ll be coming back to try to defend my Dolphin title in 2026 in my tune up for Boston.
