Legend has it that Neptune, the Roman god, was King of the Sea. Do you have what it takes to become King of the Virginia Beach Oceanfront this year? Challenge yourself to our King Neptune Challenge. King Neptune Challenge participants will run the TowneBank Shamrock 8k on Saturday, March 19th, and then both the Anthem Half Marathon and the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon on Sunday, March 20th. All King Neptune Challenge finishers will receive a total of six medals during the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend!
To be eligible for the King Neptune Challenge, you must meet the following:
You must be able to run a Half Marathon in 1 hour and 45 minutes. This time will be verified in Athlinks. If this time can not be verified, you will not be able to participate in the King Neptune Challenge.
King Neptune Challengers will be required to be at the King Neptune Challenge transition area one hour and 45 minutes from the gun time start of the half marathon (8:45AM). If a participant does not reach the transition area by the 1:45 cut off, they will not be able to proceed to the full marathon start. Participants who do make the transition area by 8:45am will be given a bracelet that will allow them to start the full marathon. These participants must be at the marathon start by 8:50am. If they do not make it to the start by 8:50am, they will not be allowed to start the full marathon. These restrictions are necessary due to police requirements to re-open portions of Atlantic Avenue on the Full Marathon course. King Neptune Participants will have a special King Neptune race bib.
