Registration for the King Neptune Challenge is now closed

Legend has it that Neptune, the Roman god, was King of the Sea. Do you have what it takes to become King of the Virginia Beach Oceanfront this year? Challenge yourself to our brand new King Neptune Challenge. King Neptune Challenge participants will run the TowneBank Shamrock 8k on Saturday, March 21st, and then both the Anthem Half Marathon and the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon on Sunday, March 22nd.  All King Neptune Challengers will receive a total of six medals during the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend!  Challenge participants must be able to finish the half marathon which starts at 7:00am and transition to the full marathon start by 8:50am. Participants who do not finish the Half Marathon and start the Marathon by 8:50am will not be eligible for the King Neptune Challenge.

Important information:

King Neptune Participants will have a special King Neptune race bib.  This personalized race bib is what gives participants access to the special accommodations listed below;

Receive a total of six finisher medals; on Saturday you’ll receive your TowneBank Shamrock 8k medal, then on Sunday you’ll gather up your Yuengling Shamrock Marathon medal, Whale Challenge medal, King Neptune Challenge medal, Anthem Half Marathon medal, and the Dolphin Challenge medal!

King Neptune Participants must drop off their dry bag / special needs bag (clear bag only) at 30th Street just past the Half Marathon finish line at the boardwalk.  King Neptune bag drop off is open from 6:15 am – 6:45 am.  The dry bag / special needs bag is for your transition area needs (nutrition, change of socks, etc.) as well as your items needed for after the race (dry shirt, change of shoes, etc.).

King Neptune Participants will have access to corral number 1 at the half marathon start, and will need to finish the half marathon and exit the finish line to the transition area.

Look for King Neptune transition from the half marathon finish chute. This exit is for King Neptune participants only and will be where your dry bag / special needs bag will be as well as water, Gatorade, Powergels, and snacks.  This exit will close at 8:50 am.

King Neptune Participants will leave their dry bag / special needs bag at the transition area and immediately go to the marathon start line before the 8:50 am cut off.

Cross the marathon finish line and receive your marathon medal, marathon finisher hat and marathon finisher item, then continue through the finish line chute to receive the rest of your loot which includes; Whale medal, King Neptune medal, Half Marathon medal, Dolphin Challenge medal, half marathon finisher hat, half marathon finisher item, and refreshments.  Your dry bag / special needs bag will also be waiting for you at the King Neptune medal table.

This Challenge is limited to participants who can finish the half marathon and start the full marathon by 8:50 am, and still be able to continue the marathon within the course time restrictions.  Participants who do not meet the time limits will not be qualified to complete the Challenge.
